Hi,
It took me some time to catch up on the Durian team, but I am getting there!
Here is a first rough edit and an indication of how the documentary/making of Sintel will look like. Of course much more aspects will be covered (concept art, modelling, animation, production up and downs etc…) there are still some weeks to go before the end of the project and many more things to film…

Hey everyone!
We had an, how to say…. overwhelming response about the sprint. Initially we were planning to manage the sprint in realtime, overseeing work, assigning tasks, and keeping tabs on people. However, since it looks like we underestimated the mass of people interested in participating, we’ve decided to go for a ‘freer’ approach so that we don’t go insane. What this means is that we won’t be managing versions or restricting people’s options on what to model. Here is how we’ll proceed:
We made the list of all the objects and props we need modeled on the Blender Wiki.
On that page you’ll be able to edit the page, and mark your name next to an item as you begin to work on it. We think this is a good idea to get a sense of what’s being worked on, and what models are being neglected.

Another cool announcement for today: the long awaiting dvd from David is shaping up well! Those who attented his – already legendary – courses on the Blender Conference saw a glimpse of what to expect. For everyone else; get this awesome digital painting course (GIMP!) now! Oh, and yes… all Creative Commons, so it’ll be online and downloadable in no time as well. Getting a dvd will help us forward though! 🙂 Expected delivery is mid march.
If you like to help us advertising this product? Check the banners preview, or download them all as a zip.
And then visit the Blender store here!

Two of Netherland’s best and most renowned actors have accepted to be voicing Sintel and “the Shaman”. I’m very happy to announce to have Halina Reijn and Thom Hoffman at our disposal next monday afternoon to record the voices, and help us to bring alive the main characters in our short film.
Halina and Thom both starred in Paul Verhoeven’s Black Book (2006), Halina acted with Tom Cruise in Valkyrie in 2008. Both are known to be excellent character performers.

Hey everyone! JS speaking.
Just wanted to give you guys a small update for the sprint for Saturday. Here’s how it will work!
1. You’ll have to log on to #Blenderdurian on the Freenode server in IRC
2. You’ll have to read CAREFULLY the topic of the channel in which there will be information about how to look at the list of asset we need. The wiki where the list is will also contain a F.A.Q. and references images for the list.
3. The rules in the channel are simple. The channel is there so you can ask questions and show your progress, nothing else. If you want to chat of other things, we suggest going to #Blenderchat. Everyone chatting about something other than questions regarding the sprint are going to be kicked out of #blenderdurian. We don’t want to play dictator, but this sprint is to make us gain time, not lose time. And for that reason, we’ll need to keep the channel well structured and clean. We’ll have a great time together on Saturday, so just let try to stay civilized 😀

So, the face rig for Sintel has pretty much been a big train wreck up until now. I started off trying to do a primarily bone-based face rig, since it would be easier to automate and adapt to other characters. I made some progress with this, and it’s still a direction I’d like to pursue after Durian for background characters in future works. Here’s where I managed to get things:
