1700 pre-order credits!
on September 16th, 2009, by TonWhoa! We’re all totally happy with the level of support we’ve had the past 6 weeks. A whopping 1700 people have signed up to become our first batch of movie investors, and get a credit in the film scroll! Thanks a lot! π
(Hint hint: only if you actually pay for the dvd the credit will be added, the 160 open orders will get a week max to complete the order).
Important: also later orders for the DVDs will get a good credit online and on the ‘thank you section’ of the DVD.
Later more, it seems we’re close to have a great script! I heard!

Nice, good to see so many pre orders. Gratz durian team.

I really hope that a lot of peoples will break the 2000 level, I like this idea that you could engage more coders with the team.
September 16th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
That’s great news π
Glad to be a small part of that huge number π
September 16th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Yipeeee ! Congrats Durian Team and Blender..
I hope you guys make it to 2k mark and even complete the next assignment π
I got mine already π
September 16th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Congrats! That’s actually quite a lot of people!
And good to hear the script is getting closer and closer to final draft! Perhaps a good story, no matter the final picture quality, is what will get more and more people to pay attention on future projects. But everything is looking great, for now!
The time for getting into animation is coming, too. That’s when we’ll be working hard at perfecting it, like poetry… A good story is meaningless if it’s badly executed, right?
So go and see to it that the characters are real, performance-driven, expressive! Make them emit their own aura, and in this way, let them carry the plot from beginning to end!
Work your magic!

@Lasse R. Bruntse –
Thanks for those! Looks like a fair bit to study there, even if just from a rendering / tech point of view.

Saw UP (in 3D) a few days ago…
They had a commercial right before it which was clearly post-processed… the people in it looked like dancing cardboard.
Pixar itself did a good job with the movie. The effect can really put more attention to a certain part of the movie (better than just playing with the focus or depth of field). Overall the movie looked more impressive (and dramatic at points) but it is still not perfect technology.
One day it would be nice to have a Blender Open Movie which would make use of it… perhaps even published as http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2009/07/youtube-3d.html.

@Gerard Braad: I agree with you, it would be really nice to see an open movie that uses some kind of 3d technology, like typical red-blue glasses.
And its nice to be part of this project, I just bought my Durian DVD Set yesterday and Im excited about it!! =D .
I can’t wait to read the next post about this project…. OUR project =)

Congratulations.. And a big thank you to all the supporters. I am glad that I could also chip in this time.

We’d love to make a stereoscopic version of the film, but the additional work and time should be covered up for by a sponsor.
September 17th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
You’re welcome guys of the Durian team !
We paid to support you all and to thanks your efforts.
And we will continue to support these kind of movies, BBB was already fantastic I can’t wait for Durian to be finished.
September 17th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Very Good Luck on this project!!!
I’m waiting to have that amazing DVD at home :D:D:D:D:D
Good job!
September 17th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
no problem. (:
oh, I think there is an bug in the comment-script, as it had filled the namebox and mailbox with William Reynish’s name and mail. (:
September 17th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
GO GO GO. I hope the sale will go beyond 2000, maybe 2200 even. Like BBB was demonstrated everywhere from TV shops to big conferences, I hope that lots of businesses would start buying their copy too.
I hope that Durian will have some of the rich texture and intensity like the character animation of Don Bluth’s Dragon’s Liar.
September 17th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
How about notifying people on the pending list by emails ?
September 18th, 2009 at 1:16 am
And still… rising π Congrats!!!!
September 18th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
@Ton
Certainly the additional time needs to be covered by a sponsor… therefor it would be great to do a call-out for an additional extras to Durian that could be done after the initial work (and release) is covered… like for the Blu-ray edition? or it could be initial idea for the following Open Movie project, since I am sure there will be! Thanks for all the work Ton!
