    Last day at the institute

on March 4th, 2010, by jsguillemette

Hey community! How are you all? πŸ™‚

Well my journey at the institute comes to an end.Β  I was suppose to stay here up until the end of the projects, but stuff came up (i.e. Life and job!) which I can’t put aside! And so, I am leaving tomorrow afternoon to go back in the cold winter of Montreal, Canada.

And, for the people that were on IRC and the live stream during the sprint or the people who read the ‘rumours’ on the intertubes, no Ton didn’t fire me πŸ˜›Β  Back during the sprint me and Ton were just joking about my departure, because hey, it’s better to laugh about it than to cry!

My stay here was fantastic. The whole team is so friendly and the atmosphere in the studio is really good so far (might get more aggressive in the last few week of production when people sleep 2-3hours per night haha!) and I wish them all good luck on finishing this really ambitious project!

But don’t worry community, Ton has plans for everything (because he cares alot about the community and the project we’re doing for you guys!). I will be working on some stuff over the internet from my home in Montreal, and Ton will also announce quite a few BIG news in the next few days.

So, community, don’t shed a tear for my departure, for this project is already in very good hands!

Hopefully you will understand my position and that I had to go back home. And I will keep my promise of workingΒ  from home πŸ™‚

and look we should still all be happy πŸ™‚

      Welcome back home !
And thank you for the work you’ve done (and you will do) for the project.
And thanks to the whole team too !
And ……… hey !! You said too much !! Why waiting a few days for the big news !? πŸ™‚ That’s not funny to play with our patience ! πŸ˜‰

    2. Cris Polecat Says:

Thanks to you and to all the team! Really can’t wait for the BIG surprises!
Thanks again for your effort Jean! Can’t wait to see the movie!

    3. Tristan Says:

Thanks Jean-Sebastian! I wish you a save journey! I hope to see some great stuff from you next πŸ™‚

    4. D Says:

We appreciate your unseen work, JS! πŸ˜€ It’s awesome that you’ll still be working on it.

And some big news? In a few days? Why did you have to tell us that?!?! D:< But that's okay, no news will ever be big news for me unless it involves Samuel L. Jackson. πŸ˜› Or Clive Owen, I could settle for that. πŸ˜€

    5. jachristie79 Says:

Ton just goes through artists yesterdays news paper!!! The working conditions must be pretty bad over there. The term sweat shop comes to mind.

    6. jachristie79 Says:

should of been a “like” between artists and yesterdays… no edit commend for comments:(

    7. jsguillemette Says:

jachristie79; I can’t think of any other artist that came here and left? maybe you can point me to them πŸ˜›

Actually Ton usually tell us ‘Go home and have fun’. If the artists works long hours here, it’s only because they’re enjoying what they’re doing and because they’re perfectionnist πŸ˜‰

    8. eric Says:

@JS : Just want to tell you that the winter is over in Montreal !! πŸ™‚

C’est le temps des sucres maintenant !

    9. jsguillemette Says:

      Greeeaaaaattt! πŸ˜€

    10. nawabz Says:

durian: can we get a tip on what we should expect. actually dont i think its a waiting game…besides its not like you were gonna give away anything soon anyway.

    11. acro Says:

all the best with whatever you move onto, JS! Hopefully some of the extras will divulge what you’ve been up to behind the scenes? Heh, and the bunny isn’t looking too impressed in the ‘all be happy’ pic. πŸ˜›

    12. Jacob Says:

Dang. I hope you still have fun in canada though. You’ve done a good job

    13. Bao2 Says:

Big Bunny behind you don’t likes your departure !

    14. DudeFromKansas Says:

Hey, Later on Jean-Sebastian. I can understand your position. Gotta have a job to go back to after this. Stupid Bosses…anyways good luck man. You have done an awsome job at the institute!!

    15. Argh Says:

Best of luck to you and your future endeavors.
It just seems really strange to me about you leaving so soon. I would like to buy the “life/job” reason but I just can’t.
I hope the real reason isn’t- ” this project is not what you thought it would be like and are therefore jumping ship”

Just my 2 cents- don’t take it for much.

    16. jsguillemette Says:

DudeFromKansas, actually my boss over in montreal is really cool, and the fact that he is, is the reason I’m going back. If I had a stupid boss over there, I wouldn’t mind my job there, but I just happen to work in the coolest studio in Montreal and don’t want to lose my opportunity there.

Argh, I don’t want to find excuses and reasons for the next couple years. I said what I said, and I meant it. If I didn’t like the project, I would have left earlier already, and I wouldn’t be saying I’ll work from home once I’m in Montreal! πŸ˜‰

This is already a hard decision for me, please understand it. πŸ™‚

    17. Loken Says:

Welcome back to this hemisphere JS! I hope Montreal’s weather warms up a bit for you like it has been here (Minnesota)

Was great seeing you during the Sprint.

      Best wishes,

    18. nathan Says:

Actually, I kept telling really uninspired jokes, and js got so fed up with them that he just had to leave. He couldn’t take the puns anymore!

    19. Juan Romero Says:

Coolest studio in Montreal?, man, if that is Ubisoft, I really understend you. Well, even if it isn’t

    20. Juan Romero (Onnevan) Says:

oh, and good look in your future endevours! I think we talked in the sprint, you were really nice so I wish the best to you

    21. Argh Says:

Good to know. I hope my previous comment wasn’t upsetting. I just voiced my initial thoughts which I’m sure others have thought as well. Again, I wish you the best. Your work/portfolio is outstanding!

@Nathan: maybe the new guy will like your jokes better. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. lol

You guys are the bomb! Take care and happy blending!

    22. yoff Says:

Well, we do not know the story, but I am sure you have valid reasons to move back. You obviously like being in Amsterdam and you continue as part of the team…I am just happy that you were there for a while and now stay on from afar…and wish you good luck with whatever it is you need to do πŸ™‚

    23. Sunjay03 Says:

πŸ™ Happy trip! πŸ˜€ Thanks for the work you did! πŸ™‚

      Im Canadian too. πŸ˜‰

    24. Wentam Says:

    25. Robbie Losee Says:

@ JS – Welcome back to the Western Hemisphere! It is good to hear your positive attitude toward your boss.

I think the big angry bunny just adds contrast to the picture. Besides – it could have been Emo or Proog in the background. πŸ˜‰

@ Nathan – We love your jokes. They are almost as funny as being hit by a bus!

    26. Riboshom Says:

      Didn’t see a lot of your work…
Well, you probably helped a lot in the bac-stage but…
It would have been fun to see some more updates!
      Anyway, welcome back! πŸ™‚

    27. Luks Says:

      Good luck !

I hope Ton will find someone to fill the hole πŸ™‚

    28. DudeFromKansas Says:

Glad to hear your boss is cool! That makes a job a lot more fun!! Again. thanks for all your work and good luck.

    29. Ray Says:

Nathan is right about his responsibility, that’s too bad he’s a giant and really good at rigging, animating, and looking like a nice guy. so that he can’t be fired, but I’m sure the whole team and audience would like to run away from him, for the sake of their sanity, they would have for Big Buck Bunny! they only stay and stayed because he’s so damn good they can’t do otherwise… we’re trapped πŸ™‚
Even Ton is under his grey magic and the whole blender community might even surrender to it. The resistance of JS is admirable… Hell, I give up. Let him do all animator friendly rigs he wants… And I guess the jokes too…

    30. Zazizizou Says:

I don’t see you in the ‘About’ section πŸ™ o_O

    31. Pix'nlove Says:
