    DivX upgrades sponsorship

on September 17th, 2009, by Ton

A very nice surprise on our bank account yesterday: sponsorΒ  DivX Inc upgraded their sponsorship to PREMIUM! That’s a great gesture of commitment, thanks a bunch! Oh…Β  and coincidentally, the Premium Sponsor amount equals to almost 300 DVDs, if we would have put it in our thermometer we’d have had 2000!

    3. Felix Says:

Wow, well, that’s a super nice gesture, should blender now support encoding renderer video intoDivX as well? idk, but hey, awesome anyways! πŸ˜€

Wow, I think that’s a really inspiring gesture from DivX. Way to go guys. Companies who support communities like this always get on my short-list for future purchases. In my mind, they’ve got their attitude right.

    8. tyrant monkey Says:

wow that’s nice, a lot of companies use Blender Open movie content to demo their various codecs etc. it would be nice gesture if they also chiped in to the pot.

Good on the Divx guys for doing this, this also has a plus side for me I could easliy burn this on a dvd and give it to friends and family to switch a lot of dvd machines play Divx disc and movies. ( I am assuming that Divx will be one of the many codecs that this movie will be released in.)

@Felix can’t you already do that when you switch to avi codec divx is one of the offered compression methods

    17. AvidThrows Says:

So… Perhaps you guys can now bribe another critical thinker to redo the rendering engine in OpenCL? I mean, each of the 3 year old 8800GT’s you guys had from BBB run at a (theoretical) massive 500Gflops a piece! Pff, you wouldn’t even need a grid!

    18. brecht Says:

AvidThrows: in my opinion, porting the renderer to OpenCL in a few months (which is the time we have) and getting a significant speed gain and a stable engine, would not be possible even if we had 10 extra developers.

    19. AvidThrows Says:

You can’t expect miracles, I suppose. I just have an agenda of a better blender to push… hehe. πŸ˜›

    20. nawabz Says:

well i guess we only need one more brecht and it may just be possible.

    21. vykelt Says:

Way to go Divx! Think I might be upgrading soon as well. Thanks from the BlenderHeads!
