    Fight!!!

on December 15th, 2009, by ali

Colin, Lee, Ton and I went to Man-Lung Tang’s school on Friday (12-12-09), mainly to improve some of the fighting sequences. The afternoon was very productive and the resulting fight choreographies will certainly add a lot to the movie. Further the students of Man-lung were nice enough to provide the team with some spectacular acrobatics, really nice indeed!! Check it out, here is a glimpse of the afternoon.

sweet cant to wait to see this put to the movie!

    2. Guybrush Threepwood Says:

Colin, is the master of high flying kicks ๐Ÿ˜‰
nice to see, how much effort you put into realism. Many animations do not care about physics and anatomy.
Hope you had fun and found new ideas and solutions.
I think this is the first ever video I see Ton to gesture!

      Kick it guys

    3. D Says:

I’m excited not only by what I saw, but also by what I know isn’t shown yet for the rest of the movie’s action sequences. ๐Ÿ˜€ Hope it was a useful day for you guys, and maybe you’ll be back for some pickups? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I had an idea whilst watching some of the guys’ acrobatics of incorporating those cool-looking moves as part of Sintel’s fighiting style – as in, she can attack and cause damage whilst moving in that fashion – for one completely original and never-before. Sort of like how Kurt Wimmer mixed guns and Kung-fu to give Gun-kata, or ribbon gymnastics and guns in Ultraviolet.

    4. Virgilio Says:

I’m used to see this kind of “Making of” AFTER the movie is completed. The feeling of following the evolution of the movie WHILE it’s being made is really great.

Really good reference for the fight sequences. ๐Ÿ™‚

      Thanks for sharing!

    5. Felix Says:

    19. Nixon Says:

awesome WIP video….great sports moves and fighting going on there,
really like how the martial arts people add ideas to the action, I think it can add alot if skilled fighters plot out how’D hey go about a certain situation in a fight,
the sintel martial artist is really awesome just the right type for that sort of movie and the martial arts mobsters are the perfect match…
great moves and jumps that everyone displays there..
hope this will be included on the dvd’S aswell since its definetly a huge source for timing and choreography of animations..and huge fun to watch:)

Best regards to all the team and stunt people!! <3

    20. MeshWeaver Says:

awesome ๐Ÿ˜€ it reminds me of the Revenge of the Sith making-ofs ๐Ÿ˜€

      lol, Colin, you’re funny ๐Ÿ˜€

i really love the fact that the “Making-Ofs” are being shown WHILE the movie is being created, awesome!
well, it’s sure that this will really help the animators ๐Ÿ˜€

      GO DURIAN!!! :-DDD

(it’s weird, i play around with rods and sticks like that quite often, trying to do cool twirling stuff like they all did… lol)

    21. twin Says:

      -“that’s very good”
      -“thank you”

      LOL, you guys are fun!

    22. lowlander Says:

    24. vykelt Says:

Ps: The girl… oh God… She is amazing…. I’m in love (just kiding…)

      Congratulations to all of you!!

    26. Ivรกn Says:

Maybe it could be worth checking and buying videos like these about animation reference fighting.

    27. watakach Says:

Cool ! can’t wait to see it in 3d ๐Ÿ™‚

I really loved all the “woooooo” for every jumps at the end ๐Ÿ™‚

    28. Jadd Says:

      Can we have a .ogv?

    29. Felix Says:

Yes, please make it easier to watch your videos using non-proprietary software.

    30. Rudiger Says:

Wow, is it too late to make Sintel look more like that martial arts girl?

    31. creek23 Says:

I have to say, I like the jumping-jack at last part best ^^

Just realized, it would also be awesome to make a full-length movie of Sintel (with the kungfu chick as Sintel), then use Blender for special effects ๐Ÿ˜‰

    32. young_voter Says:

This live action stuff looks good – maybe we should forget about the animation and make Sintel live action with real character. Let’s put in some intelligent combination punches and kicks since I notice it’s one punch then the bad guy is down.

    33. young_voter Says:

When I hit, I do not hit. It hits all by itself.

      – Bruce Lee, 1973

    34. Len Says:

      KIA!!!

Awesome stuff, very exciting. I won’t be messing with any of them anytime soon, and that includes Colin! Them starfish jumps looked scary dude. Seriously. ๐Ÿ˜›

    35. Arne Babenhauserheide Says:

I love the speed of the fighting scenes!

To me it makes them not only appear realistic but also shows how damn dangerous a fight is. You don’t have more than that split moment to decide how to act, and there’s no turning back after you decided on your path of action.

I miss that feeling in many fight movies, but this short clip shows it very nicely.

And the final cinematic act got me instantly – thanks for my happy smile ๐Ÿ™‚
